Academic and Professional Profile
As an undergraduate, Kamaluddin interned with the United Nations in various capacities in New York, Geneva, and Bangkok. While pursuing a graduate degree in Political Science at Columbia University, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York where he conducted research and wrote briefs for a program on Muslim Politics and Society sponsored by the Ford Foundation. Upon completion of his higher studies in law and theology, Kamaluddin was a guest lecturer on various topics on Islam at several universities in the United States and South Africa, including New York University, SUNY-Stony Brook, University of Cape Town, and Rhodes University. He has been a member of the LUMS Faculty since March 2005. In addition to teaching and course development, Kamaluddin is presently undertaking research on the status of legal precedent in Islamic and Western Jurisprudence.
Kamaluddin has taught 'Islamic Studies', 'Islamic Spirituality', and 'Democratic Theory' in the Social Sciences Program. He has also lectured on 'Hudood Ordinance', 'Islam and Human Rights', and 'Islamic Ethics' in the B.Sc and EMBA Programs. Kamaluddin will be teaching 'Islamic Jurisprudence' in the second year of the LL.B Program
